A major expansion and renovation project has begun at the multi-award-winning Belfry Hotel & Resort in the West Midlands. The impressive project, being delivered by VINCI Building, will see the flagship 852sqm event space, The Masters Suite, built and designed to host 648 guests for banqueting, with a maximum event capacity of 920, making it the perfect premium setting for conferences and product launches, mini expos and weddings.

Birmingham has evolved to become the biggest centre for business events outside of London and The Masters Suite will allow the resort to cater for the increased demand in the luxury venue market, from both new and existing customers.

VINCI Building are on target to deliver the design and build of the new conference and event facility, with an adjoining new wing of hotel guestrooms and suites over four storeys, to provide 149 additional bedrooms, along with highway section 278 access improvement works, for Autumn 2025.

Resort enhancements included in the overall redevelopment project are already complete, including the refurbishment of over 300 existing bedrooms, the building of two new outdoor event spaces; Terrace on the 10th and The Green, and a stylish redesigned Brabazon Bar and Lobby.

The project is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating including best in class architectural specification and MEP services with extensive solar panels installed to several roofs of the electric buildings. The energy and water consumption will be further improved through energy efficient lighting and controls as well as water saving shower heads and taps. Carbon footprint will be tracked throughout the project with visitors benefitting from 80 additional electric vehicle charging points as well as complimentary on-site parking for guests.  The project plans to divert 100% of waste from landfill and is scheduled to achieve a 10% biodiversity net gain.

Tony Grindrod, Regional Director at VINCI Building, said: “VINCI Building are delighted to be delivering this fantastic project for The Belfry. We will draw on our experience in the hotel and leisure sector for this iconic resort, which is such a key part of the regions history. Seeing the frame of the building take shape over the past few weeks has been exciting and the team will continue to work hard to deliver this project on time and on budget.”

Chris Eigelaar, Resort Director, said: “The commencement of work on site is a significant moment for the entire team at The Belfry after years of planning behind the scenes. Work on the new Masters Suite and the wider refurbishment is moving at quite a pace already, and it’s exciting to see the progress made each day.

“The Masters Suite and adjoining bedrooms will transform our offering by providing a dedicated space for the meetings, incentives, conferences and events market.  It will also be the perfect luxury venue for large weddings. We’re looking forward to building on our reputation as an outstanding business, leisure, and golf destination.”

The redevelopment has been in the works since Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Cedar Capital Partners bought the Belfry in 2021. The project has been designed by renowned architects EPR and interior designers FIG and finalised by local architects Corstorphine + Wright Limited. Hoare Lea and Expedition have designed the services engineering, civils and structures respectively, with SES and Link Engineering taking it through to construction.  EDP are supporting the landscape design and construction throughout. The project and cost management are being led by Amicus Property consultants.
